As you may know Longbenton supports a community in Ndhiwa, Kenya. As the nights draw in I am reminded of the nights I had in Kenya where it was dark by 7pm and think about students desperate to do homework in our link school Arina but are hindered by no light at home. One of our aims is to ensure that we can give all of our girls at Arina clean, safe, light.

Costing just £10, a solar lamp will make such a difference to a girl and her family, providing safe, clean light for up to five years – helping transform lives by fighting poverty, improving health and allowing students to continue their studies once the sun goes down.

We were hoping that tutor groups would be able to raise £10 to provide a lamp for one of our students at Arina.

This week has seen International day of the girl and UNICEF have just released this video:

Above is a photo of some of the students receiving lamps we helped to purchase in a prize giving - wearing our old school jumpers! If anybody has any old school ties I know the students in Kenya are very proud to wear them.

Thank you in anticipation
