Enrichment and Extra Curricular Activities

At Longbenton High School, we believe that education is about much more than what happens in the classroom. Our students deserve opportunities to discover new interests, develop talents, build confidence, make friends and experience the wider life of the school.

Our INSPIRE Clubs are a key part of this. They give students the chance to try something new, deepen an existing passion, receive extra academic support, take part in sport, explore creativity, develop leadership skills and enjoy being part of the Longbenton community.

Enrichment sits closely alongside our school vision that students should Evolve, Create, Discover, Perform and Achieve. Through our extra curricular offer, students are encouraged to become more confident, more curious and more ambitious. Whether they are representing the school in sport, performing in music or drama, attending revision and catch up sessions, joining a club for fun, or working with others on a shared project, every activity helps students grow beyond the formal curriculum.

Our KIDMAP values of kindness, integrity, determination, manners, ambition and positivity are also at the heart of our enrichment programme. Clubs and activities help students practise these values in real situations. They learn to work as part of a team, support others, show commitment, take responsibility and develop the resilience needed to keep improving.

We want every student to find something that helps them feel connected to school life. For some students, this may be a sports club such as football, netball, basketball, badminton, tennis, cricket or volleyball. For others, it may be a creative activity such as choir, music, performing arts, film club, sewing, knitting or creative media. Some students may enjoy clubs such as chess, Lego League, Warhammer, Pokémon, book club, Pride Club or Duke of Edinburgh. Others may choose academic support and revision sessions in subjects such as English, maths, science, history, geography, Spanish, photography or computer science.

There is no single route through enrichment. What matters is that students take part, try new things and make the most of the opportunities available to them. A club can be the place where a student discovers a future career, develops a lifelong interest, builds confidence, or simply enjoys spending time with others who share the same enthusiasm.

Our aim is for every student to take part in at least one enrichment activity each week. We know that students who engage in the wider life of school often feel more confident, more motivated and more connected to their learning. Enrichment helps students build the skills, character and experiences that will support them long after they leave Longbenton High School.

The INSPIRE Clubs timetable changes during the year so that we can respond to student interests, staffing, seasonal activities and exam support. Students should check the current timetable carefully and speak to the member of staff leading the activity if they would like to attend.
