Important Notice: School Closure Tomorrow Tuesday 24.06.25
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are writing to inform you that, due to an urgent health and safety matter, the school site will be closed to all Longbenton High School students tomorrow, Tuesday 24.06.25.
Health and Safety issue
Earlier today, one of our classroom whiteboards became detached from the wall and fell without warning. Thankfully, no one was in the room at the time and no one was injured. After an immediate assessment, we have determined that all similar boards across the school need to be taken down, thoroughly checked for safety and/or replaced. Where necessary, fixtures will be replaced and boards reinstalled to meet safety standards. All of the boards we think are affected have been in place since the new school building opened in 2016.
Please be assured that this decision has not been taken lightly. The safety of our students, staff, and visitors is always our highest priority. We are taking this proactive step to ensure the environment is safe and secure.
Home / Remote Learning
Students will be able to access work via Google Classroom. Please email lhs@longbenton.org.uk with any log in issues related to Google Classroom passwords. Students should also use GCSE Pod which they should be used to using - again contact us with any issues. We will not be delivering live lessons due to the lack of notice we have been able to give staff.
Free School Meals
If you would like your child to collect a free school meal, please give us a call in the morning and we will arrange for a packed lunch for them to collect.
Meetings and other events planned for tomorrow:
- SEND Transition morning for Year 6 will still go ahead (they are using the Main Hall which is not affected/safe to use).
- Parent drop in event for Year 10 will still go ahead (they are also using the Main Hall space).
- If you had a meeting arranged with the pastoral or senior team, these meetings will be rearranged and/or moved online if appropriate.
- Year 10 MFL mock assessments that were scheduled for tomorrow will be rearranged and students will not be disadvantaged in any way.
We understand that short-notice closures can be disruptive, and we appreciate your understanding and support as we work swiftly to resolve this issue. We expect that school will reopen as normal on Wednesday 25.06.25. We will confirm this as soon as we are able tomorrow.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
