Longbenton High school had a strong presence at the county championships last Saturday in Hexham. 7 students across 3 year groups represented North Tyneside in a total of 9 events and all performed brilliantly.
Robbin T produced another good run in the junior girls 1500m placing 5th overall but her time of 5min18 smashed the school record which has been held since 2011. Jack D jumped 1.45m equalling his personal best in the high jump in very slippy conditions. Maisie and Evie ran well in the 100m heats but unfortunately were unable to qualify despite Evie's time being the same as another athlete who did qualify for the final. Claudia ran impressively in both the 100 and 200m and came in 3rd place in the 200m final. Francesca A-B jumped impressively in both the triple jump and long jump and narrowly missed out on qualification, coming 3rd in the triple jump, but did gain qualification in the long jump gaining 2nd place.
Tanatswa also finished in 2nd place in the javelin throwing an excellent 26.42m in the javelin. Not bad for someone who has never thrown this before arriving at Longbenton earlier this year.
Well done to all who competed and special mention to those who have qualified to represent the county on Saturday in Middlesbrough (Tanatswa and Frankie, Claudia is a reserve). Please wish them luck and congratulate the others who performed superbly well.
