This time, the Year 7 team took on Kings Priory in their third game of the season, this time in the League Cup, looking for 3 wins in a row, and book a place in the quarter finals.
As we have in our first games, we took control of the ball, and began to play the game at our pace. The vast majority of the first half was spent in the opposition half, but our back line of goalkeeper Leon A, and defenders Luke A, Garrick J and Jake B remained strong and focussed to prevent any counters. Ben W swept up well in defensive midfield while Jacob P looked to provide killer passes through their defence for Jakob V and Joey on the wings, and Jackson up top. Despite SEVERAL chances in open play, it took a set piece to give us the lead. Jack M shortly after coming on whipped a delightful corner in, and Garrick J got across his marker and provided an outrageous flick with his heel to give us a well deserved lead. Noah slotted in for Jake at the back and crunched some brilliant challenges, and Carter took the place of Ben in an attempt to unlock Kings' resolute defence.
As the second half began, it was evident to see LHS were regaining control again, but couldn't quite put away our chances. With 7 minutes to go, a fantastic run from Joey down the right was spotted by Carter, who played an exquisite through ball with tremendous vision, and Joey gleefully slotted home to make it 2-0. With a minute left, LHS killed the game off after a tremendous run from Joey to the byline saw him cut it back to the open Jacob P, who bashed one in the bottom corner to make it 3-0, taking us to a resounding, and well deserved victory.
The lads were absolutely EXCEPTIONAL on another cold evening. They showed unwavering support for each other, and tremendous determination against a good Kings side, as well as excellent quality with the ball and without during the game. Our next test is our first league game of the season, as we take on Burnside away on the 12th December.
