What does the future look like for LHS Photography?

Photography students are thrilled to have moved into new premises in the art department at LHS. The build promises larger and more convenient spaces, a friendlier environment and wider array of opportunities for new and old students alike.

The facilities differ widely from the old build. Previously, the photography studio was separate to the other art amenities, therefore teachers were unable to work as closely with students. However, in the new build, both the studio and the classroom are joined. The experience between teacher and student is more personal and positive. However, although the affair is more personal, artists feel that their art and inner expressions could be more private, so the department hope to purchase curtains to separate each student in the near future.

Year 12 students have already benefitted greatly from the new facilities, taking part in a professional photo shoot.  Miss Robinson told us more. ‘A group of professional models came in to help our students with their coursework. The students created massively different works, portraying emotions with use of colour, shape and lighting.’

Students benefitted from the session with their teachers ; although the main purpose of the photography was simply to improve their abilities and create interesting coursework, students have mentioned that they have a more distinctive relationship with their teacher, which benefits them greatly during classes.

The new build promises new opportunities: the models state that they would very much like to come back to the school to work with LHS again. Overall, the art department has gained much because of the new premises and the students enjoy their time their immensely.
