Year 8 pupils self-isolating - May half term
Your child has been asked to self-isolate today after positive cases of Covid-19 were identified within their school bubble. We thank you for adhering to this important public health action to prevent transmission both within the school and wider community.
Public Health teams from North Tyneside Council and PHE are working to detect further cases of this variant, limit onward spread and reduce the impact it may have on local communities. The additional testing that is now in place in North Tyneside is one part of the action plan and will enable the public health teams to find any possible new variant cases.
We would advise that your child takes an additional PCR test this week prior to the end of their period of self-isolation. From Saturday 22 May, the council will deploy two mobile testing units (MTUs) in North Shields and Wallsend. They will be open without an appointment between 10am and 4pm at Wallsend Forum, behind the Anson pub, and in North Shields town centre. The existing test sites at The Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields and the Coronation Street car park in Wallsend should continue to only be used by those with symptoms.
This additional testing will ensure that we can reduce any possible transmission within the school and reassure you and your child. If a negative test is recorded, then your child will be able to return to their school bubble when their period of self-isolation is complete. The last day of self-isolation for your child will be Friday 4th June and they will be able to return to school on Monday 7th June.
This highly precautionary approach will allow us to detect any additional cases within the wider community and reduce possible transmission. If you have any further queries, please contact the school in the first instance. All schools are working closely with North Tyneside Council Public Health Team.
