Following the work undertaken by our school to produce PPE equipment for NHS and care home staff during lockdown, our efforts were brought to the attention of the Prime Minister by local MP Alan Campbell.

We have just received a copy of this letter from the Prime Minister's office to Alan Campbell, recognising this hugely important and fantastic work:

Dear Mr Campbell

Thank you for your letter of 5 May, informing the Prime Minister of the fantastic work being done by schools in your constituency to design and manufacture PPE within Design and Technology Departments. The Prime Minister is currently fully engaged in leading the country’s response to the coronavirus, so has asked me to reply on his behalf.

It was wonderful to learn of the efforts of Valley Gardens Middle School, Whitley Bay High School and Marden High School – not to mention Longbenton High School - to produce face shields visors for NHS workers. I am sure this incredible act of kindness was greatly appreciated by those that received them and is an inspiring example of how communities are coming together and supporting each other through this difficult and challenging time.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, please pass on my thanks to all those involved. Their efforts are greatly appreciated, as is the hard work and incredible dedication of all the staff at these schools.
