All the students from Longbenton High School took part in an extremely successful and enjoyable Sports Day on Wednesday 18th July.

The students competed under four different house teams, named after North East sporting role models:

Ritson

Hunter

Miller

Bronze

The sports on the day included: tennis; badminton; football; rugby; rounders; benchball. In the afternoon students competed in a variety of athletics events, including the 100m, 200m and relays.

We would like to take this opportunity to echo Mr Quinn’s sentiments and thank all the incredible LHS community for your amazing energy and commitment. Days like today are only possible when all students and staff are willing to engage with the event. We feel a genuine pride in the school as we reflect on the day, for all your enthusiasm and endeavours, with students and colleagues demonstrating the growth mindset and willingness to embrace new challenges that we are promoting on a daily basis across the school.

The students were an absolute credit to the school, themselves, their families and all the staff. Their resilience, determination and tenacity, in the face of injuries, sheer tiredness or sometimes initial levels of low self-confidence, were a joy to see.

As a PE Department we are so very grateful for everything that everyone has put into today, from picking up litter, motivating each other, showing good sportsmanship and just being positive about the whole event. We feel a palpable sense of pride in everything that the school stands for and the students we are working with.

Thank you again,

You are all superstars!
