Dear Parent/guardian,
I hope that your son/daughter has enjoyed their first days at Longbenton High School. All of the students seem to be settling well and making a fantastic start to their time at secondary school.
As you know we are keen to ensure that all of our students, regardless of their starting points make excellent progress during their time with us. To ensure that your son/daughter continues with the progress made in Primary School all students will be completing a baseline test in English and another in Maths over the coming fortnight.
There is no expectation that students should be revising for these tests as they will be used to inform us of the level each student is working at within the Key Stage 3 curriculum. The results of these tests will not be reported formally to parents as they are to be used by teachers in their planning of lessons so they are aware of what each student has a secure understanding of and what areas need further intervention. We will use this alongside the extensive information that we have collated from our Primary Schools.
The baseline testing, along with Key Stage 2 data and progress seen in lessons thus far may be used to make some changes to teaching groups to ensure that all students are placed in the correct class to maximise their progress. We will communicate any changes to students and yourselves before October half term if this is the case.
Thank you for your support.
Yours faithfully,
Miss S Callender
Assistant Headteacher
