First students arrive at Longbenton High School
Headteacher, Paul Quinn, welcomes students to the newly opened Longbenton High School for the first time. The multi-million point building was delivered on time by the builders, Galliford Try.
“This is not just a new building, it is a step-change for education in our community,” Mr Quinn said. “I must thank Galliford Try for the quality of the design and construction as well as the government funding agency, EFA, for their support throughout. All of our previous buildings will now be demolished and we have taken this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rebrand at Longbenton High School with a new logo, badge and uniform. This really does give our students the very best in learning opportunities in bright, state of the art facilities. The quality of teaching at Longbenton High School has long been lauded; this wonderful new build now means that we can deliver high quality education in an inspiring setting.”
There was much excitement amongst both students and staff as the school opened and that buzz of excitement was palpable as students got their first look around. “This is amazing,” said one student. “I can’t wait to go home and tell my parents about how great it is in here.”
