‘There are too few girls in STEM’ says the founder of Stemettes, Anne-Marie Imafidon as she created the inspiring movement. STEM is the combination of four subjects: science, technology, engineering and maths. From a survey in Stem only about 14.4% of the workforce is of the female gender. Engineers are another problem with only 8% of them being female.

Now with the company spreading to Europe more and more girls are learning about stem and the opportunities given.

The goal of Stemettes is to get 30% or more of the workforce to be women in a male dominated career track. They have been extremely successful from starting back in the year 2012.

From the point of view of a science teacher, Miss V Armstrong, STEM is an extremely valuable part of her life because it shaped her future when she went on a physics trip with her school it inspired her to become a teacher. For another thing we asked she said that ‘I think it’s getting better’ when the question presented was: Do you think that the number of women in STEM is too small?

On the topic of Stemettes when the company held a STEM day a group of ten girls along with the teacher, Mr M Pringle, went from Longbenton the teacher who took them said it was an extremely inspiring day and the girls enjoyed it thoroughly even some of them changed their minds of what they wanted to be when they got older.

Stemettes are now inspiring and changing the way the country and soon the world thinks about girls in STEM.
