As you may have been aware, our last Minor Athletics Competition was cut short by the rain. So yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure once again of taking our young athletes to Churchill Playing Fields for a ‘sprints and jumps’ afternoon since we missed them at the first event. This also meant we could sneak a few more in that missed the original date! Thankfully the fine morning rain had subsided and the sun began to shine for the afternoon too! Like last time, this was all in the hopes of qualifying for the Northumberland Minor Athletics Championships at the end of this month.
Our only Y7 representative on the day, Jack Dawson, secured 1st place in the High Jump, and a good time in the 200m. We await to see how his time compares to others. There were places in the top 3 for Harry Groves-Forbes, Claudia Nelson and Maisie Mensley in the 100m, Claudia, Archie Herberson and Xavier Whinham in the 200m, and Harry in the 300m. Oliver Atkinson just missed out on the top 3 but not by much. Nell Newman came 2nd in the long jump, and narrowly missed out on the top 3 in the 200m. We await to see how Maisie and Archie got on in the long jump overall, so fingers crossed for when the final results come through.
They were absolutely outstanding, and so supportive of each other!
