Dear Parents/Carers
There has been lots of discussion this week amongst students about a hot weather uniform policy. You should have received a message earlier this week about students being allowed to remove blazers when hot.
We have had a significant minority of boys arriving this morning in non-uniform shorts, with a few boys in skirts by way of a 'protest'. They have been asked to get changed on arrival to school and wear correct uniform. This will continue to be the case; students cannot simply decide to adapt uniform themselves.
We do not have a separate amendment for hot weather at present in our uniform policy. There are usually only a few term time days a year where the weather is hot enough to warrant considering it. However, it is not as simple as making a decision over-night; any uniform policy change would need to be approved by governors.
If students want this to be reviewed properly, they can bring discussion about boys being allowed to wear formal black tailored shorts in the summer time to the forthcoming school council discussions. We can then look at the pros and cons and make a decision with the governing body on whether we amend the uniform policy.
In the meantime, can I ask again for parental support regarding the wearing of correct uniform. It is better if we do not start the day with negative conversations with students on this issue.
Kind regards
