Longbenton High School Year 9 Choir were delighted to be awarded 2nd place in the North East Key Stage 3 Choir of the Year competition which took place at Durham Cathedral earlier this year. The competition was one event of many in the annual Durham Vocal Festival. The group of 14 singers worked very hard to prepare for this and loved the experience of competing, especially in the beautiful setting of Durham Cathedral. The Longbenton choir were put forward by the North Tyneside Music Education Hub as representatives of the local authority alongside Marden High School. The two North Tyneside schools competed against schools from across the regions including 3rd place choir Corbridge Camerata and 1st place choir The Academy of Shotton Hall (Durham). Judge Mark Anyan, who is one of the choir leaders of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain was very complementary about the blend of the group and commented on how expressive and entertaining the performance was. The group performed a ‘mash up’ of Rumour Has It and Someone Like You by Adele.
