Some of our students from the Melrose Centre for autism went to the Bendrigg Trust, an outdoor learning centre in the Lake District. For some of them it is their first time away from home, so from making their own bed to their first time canoeing on Lake Windermere, the visit helps develop skills for life as well as giving them experiences they won’t ever forget. Scrambling through underground caves in the Yorkshire Dales, indoor climbing and abseiling, outdoor climbing and a ropes course were just some of the activities in which the students challenged themselves – building confidence, developing relationships and boosting self-esteem.
