About DofE at Longbenton High School
All students in Year 9 have one Enrichment lesson per week. Options include the Arts Award, Debating, Apps for Good, Sports Leaders Award and the Duke of Edinburgh award.
Students can register for the Bronze award during Year 9 and then progress onto Silver at KS4.
The Award programme has 4 sections - Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. Pupils do a minimum of 3 months activity (one hour a week) for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections for Bronze level, and between 6-12 months for one of these.
The Expedition section involves planning, training for and undertaking camping expeditions up to 3 days in length, although the current Covid situation may mean that the expedition section may be slightly different.
The Gold Award can be tackled in 6th form.
